Submission Guidelines
Please contact Voices for Biodiversity about submitting an article, photo gallery, video or podcast. We target a caring and informed but non-expert audience.
Our storytelling process emphasizes that our writers share their first-person experiences and offer insightful quotes from other people mentioned in the story.
All submissions (nonfiction, fiction and poetry) should have a connection to biodiversity, biodiversity loss, and nature, such as stories about conservation, interactions with nature or other species, and introspective ideas about the natural world.
We make a particular effort to publish articles by people of diverse backgrounds and genders, with a special welcome to women, people of color, those who reside in developing countries and Indigenous Peoples. In short, we strive to share the voices of those who all too often do not have access to publication. Voices for Biodiversity is unique because we believe that all individuals should have a platform to publish their voices on behalf of biodiversity.
The categories that we publish can be found on our home page under “Articles by Category” and under “multimedia.”
All submissions will be edited by our staff for style, focus and quality. Our media platform generally uses Associated Press (AP) style for our content. All submissions will be SEO optimized for publication.
Submissions should be Microsoft Word documents. We can accommodate those who do not have access to Microsoft Word.
We do not publish footnotes or references. Instead we prefer links to online sources rather than a list of references or sources at the end.
Final submissions should include photographs if possible. We prefer horizontal photos to vertical. Photos should be submitted separately from the text. Again, please do NOT insert photos in the body of your document.
We accept submissions in English and Spanish. We can translate articles from Spanish into English and vice versa.
We do not accept submissions that have been previously published elsewhere. We do not accept any articles written by AI.
Queries should be no more than 200 words. Most of our stories are about 1,500 words.
Please specify the availability of photos and/or video.

Contributors to Voices for Biodiversity grant us permission to publish their material in our online magazine.
By agreeing to submit content or contribute to Voices for Biodiversity (regardless of the form or medium with respect to such content, whether text, videos, photographs, audio or otherwise), you are giving us and our affiliates, agents and third-party contractors the right to edit, display and publish such content on our site and its affiliated publications (either in the form submitted or in the form of a derivative or adapted work), to store such content, and to distribute such content and use such content for promotional and marketing purposes and in content developed by third parties about Voices for Biodiversity and our work.
You shall be solely responsible for your own submissions and the consequences of posting or publishing them. In connection with each of your submissions, you affirm that you own or have the necessary permissions for any and all parts of your submission, including all photos. You are expected to cite all quotes and all research correctly. We reserve the right to remove or not publish submissions without prior notice. You understand that when you submit content in any form to Voices for Biodiversity, we may authorize such content to be distributed on, syndicated to or published on our partner websites.
